ARBERQUINA
Place: Cataluña, Zaragoza and Huesca.
Area: 75.000 has.
Origin: Its name is due to de place where it started to be cultivated.
Fruits: They are little and with a cluster appearance.
Tree: It has a middle vigour, open air, globular form and open branches. It is a very productive variety, it gets maturation quite early. It behaves fantastically in intensive olive culture, with densities lightly greater to de current ones (250-300 trees/Ha).
Oil: Its production is rather good, about 20%-22%, and its quality is excellent.
CORNICABRA
Place: Castilla la Mancha.
Surface: 300.000 has.
Origin: Mora de Toledo, where it is also knows as “cornezuelo”
Fruits: Its size is middle- great.
Tree: It presents a middle vigour and the branches, at its top.
Oil: Its production of about 22% is rather good.
EMPELTRE
Place: Aragón centre.
Surface: 65.000has.
Origin: Pedrola, Zaragoza. It is very ancient, and becomes from the catalan word “empelt” (graft), as it was carried from the Bajo Aragón. In Cataluña it is known as “aragonesa”.
Fruits: It is of middle size and its stem is very large; it gets an intense black colour when its ripening; is very sensible to the freeze. The fruits are not too much visible due to the dense foliage at its top.
Tree: It has a great development, straight air and their branches present a fort tendency to the vertical position.
Oil: It has a rather good quality, with a production of about 20%-23%; the K720 is 0, 06 which points out its excellence.
HOJIBLANCA
Place: South of Córdoba province and bordering areas.
Surface: 220.000has.
Origin: Lucena, Córdoba.
Fruits: It has a quite good size, is very resistant to the natural fall, but able for mechanization. It is used, the same, for obtaining oil or as table olive.
Tree: It has vigour and straight air.
Oil: Its production is short, 18%-20%, but it has an excellent quality (K270=0, 10) and it results sweet to the taste
LECHIN DE GRANADA
Place: Granada and Almería provinces.
Surface: 15.000has.
Fruits: They have a short size and its recollection is expensive, but they have very resistance to the loosening.
Tree: It is rather resistant to the cold and to the drought; it has a late maturation.
Oil: It has a pale yellow colour, sweet taste and a rather good quality.
LECHIN DE SEVILLA
Situation: Sevilla province, Córdoba and Cádiz.
Surface: 200.000has.
Fruits: They are rather good and are considered the pattern of the gordal sevillana.
Tree: It is vigorous and able to be cultivated in limestone sols.
Oil: It has a great quality.
MANZANILLA CACEREÑA
Place: Cáceres province and south of Salamanca province.
Surface: 60.000 has.
Origin: Its name is due to the province where it is cultivated.
Fruits: They have a very good size, and are widely desired for oxidized black olives.
Tree: It has a middle vigour.
Oil: It has a short production but an excellent quality.
MANZANILLA CARRASQUEÑA
Situation: Tierra de Barros, Badajoz province centre.
Fruits: It is the middle size and rather desired as green olive.
Tree: It has a middle vigour.
MANZANILLA SEVILLANA
Situation: All around Sevilla capital.
Origin: Dos Hermanas, Sevilla.
Fruits: They have a middle size and are very appreciated as green olives.
Tree: It has a little vigour.
Oil: Its production is of about 19%.
PICUAL
Situation: Jaén, Granada y Córdoba.
Surface: 300.000has. (1/3 of Spanish olives plantation)
Tree: It has a rather great vigour.
Oil: Its production is about 50% of Spanish oil and it has a fruit taste and a great quality.
